Financial measures are, by definition, lagging indicators
of business performance. In contrast, people measures are
leading indicators of performance. An organisation that is
seeing a decline in employee morale and motivation will
inevitably see a rise in sickness and absence, as well as
an increase in staff turnover. People costs will rise, and
eventually there may be a decline in productivity, quality,
customer satisfaction and retention
